Oh no, she’s talking about being an expert this week. I think I need to hide or go and do something different. I don’t want to read to this. Cringy, huh?! Well no, not really. If you want to be known for what you do then it’s time to step into the role of being an expert in your field. Now, right now that might feel really scary and that’s okay. Let’s break it down a bit.

What’s An Expert?

Do a quick Google search and you’ll end up with this: a person who is very knowledgeable about or skillful in a particular area.

Now, I’m guessing you’re pretty knowledgeable about what you do, or pretty skilled, yes? Yay, you’re an expert!

It sounds so big headed though, right?! Eeek – We don’t want to own that word, do we?! Well how about we play it down a bit – what about the Go-To Guy or Gal? Better?

Everyone has to start somewhere, no matter if you’re the world’s best mountaineer or make the best pasta dish, you’ll have had to learn how to do it at some point.

Why Bother Becoming An Expert?

  • It builds credibility
  • Allows people to know-like-trust you
  • Raises your profile
  • Opens up more focused opportunities – Think joint ventures, speaking engagements, collaborations…
  • You’ll get paid more etc..

Oh yeah and guess what – You become VISIBLE!

How To Build Your Expertise

It has been thought that Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, had said that it takes 10,000 hours to master a subject. What he was talking about was becoming that expert that you could recognise just by one name, i.e. Oprah for example. It does take thousands of hours to become an expert, yes, but he was talking about that super duper expert level. It may be the one that you strive for, but whatever you choose you do need to put the work in to become one

How can you begin to do that?

Observe – Model the behaviour of an expert. This isn’t about copying but it’s about noticing how an expert behaves and then modelling your behaviour on theirs. Take a tiny element of what they do to become successful. For example, they might stand a particular way, have daily success strategies that they use, get a particular type of business support etc. All of these are elements that you can take away to experiment with.

Learn from various resources; research, webinars, books, other people in the same industry, training programmes, blog posts, newsletters. The more you can build your knowledge, the more you’ll also build your confidence muscle.

Teach – The best way to learn something is to teach someone else – if you can teach what you know to a 5/10 year old then you’re on your way!

And here’s where some of that teaching can come in – you can share your knowledge through various methods and start to showcase the expertise you have, all the time learning more as you go. So sharing that expert knowledge might be as simple as a tweet or a blog post, or it can go to that next stage which we’ll cover in a moment.

Showcasing Your Expertise

There are lots of ways that you can share your expert knowledge. Here’s a few ideas to get you started. All of these things will help you rock your visibility and expertise.

  • Mastermind Groups
  • Webinars/Master classes
  • Speaking Engagements
  • Writing A Book
  • Telesummits
  • Podcast Shows
  • Facebook Groups
  • Blogging/Vlogging
  • Guest Interviews/Collaboration
  • Article Writing and so much more…

So now you know why you should bother to become an expert and how to reframe the word ‘expert’.

Call to action: Think about how you can build and showcase your expertise, one simple step at a time.

Have You Eaten Your Frog?

In this blog post, I will share 8 ways that you stop procrastinating and get things done in your biz

Procrastinating can be fun. Until it’s not! It can dent your confidence, where you keep putting things off and not achieving what you want to achieve.

I do think there are positives to procrastination too though. What I mean by that is sometimes you’ll be procrastinating because you don’t have all of the information you need, or the timing isn’t right etc. This blog isn’t about that! This is about not doing the things you’re meant to be doing. I’m going to share a few ways to beat your procrastination.

This is a little list intentionally. If you’re a procrastinator giving you yet more to read or learn isn’t going to help you crack the habit of procrastinating!

  1. Clear Your Energy Drainers

There are things in life that we tolerate, we let them build up.  It might be a blown light bulb, a shredding bin that needs emptying, some paperwork etc.  Each time we see this pile or list of jobs to do it can drain our energy. It also has quite a powerful impact on how we feel about ourselves.  If we can’t achieve the simplest of things then why would we even bother trying the bigger stuff?

Write a list of the top things you are putting off and work through them one by one.  Your confidence will grow as you achieve them.

  1. Don’t Over-Think It (Less Time Thinking, More Time Doing)

This is pretty straightforward – don’t over-think it. I’ve just finished the book, ‘The 5 Second Rule’ by Mel Robbins. She has a fabulously simple little strategy of counting down from 5 to 1 and on 1 doing that thing you’re putting off. It helps you get loads done! (Read her book for more info)

We spend so much time thinking about tasks that need doing and yet put them off.  Less thinking, more doing = more time doing the things you love.

  1. Eat Your Frog

As Brian Tracy says in his book of the same name. Get the big jobs (that one you know you’re totally going to put off) out of the way – it makes the day way more fun.

  1. Most Important Tasks

Set yourself up for success.

Set your top Most Important Tasks for the Day or MIT’s (I first learned this from Leonie Dawson, I think it might be from Stephen Covey originally, I’m not sure)

  1. Use the Pomodoro Technique (Check Out This Link For More Info)

Set a timer for 25 minutes to see what you can achieve. Break down the task (Pomodoro) (set a 15/25-minute timer, put in 100% effort on that task.  When the timer goes off, put it away – just take one step at a time).

  1. Don’t Wait For Perfect (I know, this one is tough if you’re a perfectionist)

Sometimes you just need to take a risk and put it out there. Remember mistakes are ok. There will also be mistakes that you make but it’s how you learn from those mistakes and what you do differently next time that will make all the difference.

Often the fear of it not being perfect can result in procrastination.  There is debate about this but I know certainly for me I put off things because by not putting them out there means I can’t get it wrong.  I’m a work in progress.

Choose a ‘have a go’ attitude.

  1. Give Yourself Permission

You need to give yourself permission to make mistakes. If someone else made that mistake we would encourage them to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and try again – we ‘give them permission’. Not so easy when it’s you, I know.

  • Give yourself permission to be you
  • Give yourself permission to change your mind and go in a completely different direction
  • Give yourself permission to be happy

If you have learnt something from the mistake and want to keep going that’s great – but conversely if it’s really making you unhappy then it’s ok to give yourself permission to change your mind!

  1. Stop Taking Yourself So Seriously
  • Lighten up!
  • Take responsibility for your own life
  • How can you bring more fun into your life?

How To Create Content Really Fast

In this blog post, I will share ways that you can create content simply, without burning yourself out in the process.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

Are you burnt out trying to come up with new content ideas all the time for your business? You became your own boss to run your business, not to have another job, didn’t you? You are in control of this –  automate where you possibly can and have a plan. It’s key to making this whole content thing work.

Here’s some ideas to get you started:

Get A List Of 10-12 Main Topics

You know more than you think, and you definitely know way more than you need to share at any one point in time!)  This is about chunking down your content so that you don’t overwhelm your dreamies

Chunk Down

Choose 1-2 topics and write 3 sub headers for each topic

I.e. Stress is the main topic, sub-headers might be sleep, nutrition, career, relationships etc. (All things that relate to the main topic that you could talk about)

Find A Way To Plan Your Content

You could use a simple notebook, diary, online calendar, website plug-in, mind-map etc.

Create A Swipe File (What graphic designers etc. use – a fancy name for the place you can save content ideas!) Here’s a list of some I use/have used:

  • Pocket
  • Evernote
  • Pinterest
  • A simple Word document

Create Some ‘Just For Fun’ Questions (These questions are great for creating engagement)

Think up some fun questions like and share them on social media:

  • ‘What’s your favourite flavour of ice-cream?’
  • ‘What was the best book you read and why?’
  • ‘If you could have dinner with one famous person, who would it be and why?’

Write Down Some Great Calls To Action That You Could Add To Your Posts

  • If you like this, check out my little book here…
  • Enjoyed this post? Check out this other blog post about xxx here …

Write Storytelling Posts

What snippet (and I mean snippet!) could you share about you that might inspire others? Write a few out ready to post. This often freaks my dreamie clients out – they panic about what to share, how much etc. Here’s a really easy template you can follow to share your story:

  • Explain what was going on with you (headline detail only)
  • Bring it back to your lessons
  • Bring it back to them (how does it relate to them?)
  • Add a call to action

That’s it, simple, huh?

Finally, really this is the best bit! I can’t take complete credit for it though as it was my hubby’s idea many years ago and I expanded on it over time.

Think Of Your Content As Building Blocks

So a tweet or quote on Facebook is your teeny tiny block. Your next block up might be what I call a ‘random musings’ post you’ve written about something that interested you.

Your next block might be to create a one tip post as a video, blog post or in your newsletter. Then you might turn that tip into a 7 tips blog post or video. Then you could turn those tips into a video series or email series, maybe even an eBook, then at the top end you could turn these into training programmes, workshops etc. The magic is that you can also do it the other way round, where you pull old content from your training and go back down through the blocks to repurpose the content.

Here’s an image that explains it better than I may be doing.

I hope that gives you lots of ideas for how you can keep coming up with new content ideas. If you want to learn more about this, you’ll love my Supercharge Your Content Masterclass where I dig deeper on these areas so that you can create amazing content in way less time! Check it out here – http://bit.ly/SCContent

Call To Action: Go through some of your old content and using the little model I shared with you – think about how you can repurpose it.

Are You Maximising Your Time Being Visible?

In this blog post, I will share a simple 6-step plan to maximise the time you’re being visible in your business.

There are over 80,000 ways to market your business apparently, it’s no wonder we get overwhelmed with where to start.

But how do you know if the ways you’ve chosen are the right ways for your business to grow?

Well this is where being strategic in your business will really serve you. In this post, I’m going to share a simple 6-step plan to help you maximise the time you are being visible.

One of my lovely business friends, Jo Bendle, said something that really stuck with me a few years ago. She said, “Everything in business is an experiment.” She’s so right.

If you really want to get great results with your visibility then you want to make sure you’re doing the right things. This is where testing comes in.

So, let’s treat this whole visibility thing as a mini project. In my Rock Your Visibility programme, one of the key things that we do is focus only on ONE single area of visibility a month. Why do we do this? Because if you don’t stick at something for any amount of time, how can you know if it’s working or not, or whether you even enjoy it? By honing in on one area, you can then decide whether it’s worth pursuing for longer.

Now, let me be honest here – doing something on visibility for one month isn’t going to create massive growth. The growth will come from being consistent with your efforts, but it’s a really good start.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Choose One Area of Visibility To Focus On

Here’s a list of things you could choose from to get you started:

  • Blogging
  • Video
  • Training – webinars, group workshops, etc.
  • Group connection
  • Newsletters
  • Networking
  • Content Creation
  • Storytelling
  • Facebook Groups etc.
  1. Do A Mini Review
  • What are you currently doing on this area?
  • What’s working / What’s not?
  • What would be great new things to test out?

(Notice your numbers because they are great things to measure later –  how much are you doing right now, i.e. 1 blog post a month)

  1. Set Yourself One Really Clear Goal To Focus On
  • Think about what you want to achieve this month
  • Make sure it’s a super measurable goal (that way you can check your progress at the end of the month)
  • What do you want to achieve by the end of the month?
  • What will you be/do/have when you’ve hit your goal?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • What steps do you need to take that will help you achieve your goal?
  1. Brainstorm

Brainstorm lots of ways that you could improve your visibility on that area for the month

  • What support/resources do you need?
  • What system(s)/process(es) would help you manage this area better?
  • What do you need to stop/start/continue?
  • What do you need to do/create to move forward on this area this month?
  1. Manage Your Mindset
  • How will you manage your mindset to keep your vibes high for the month?
  • Maybe you need to uplevel your skills around this chosen area
  • Maybe you need to notice what you tell yourself around this topic when you take action
  1. Put In Some Milestones
  • What milestones can you put in place throughout the month so that you know you’re winning?
  • How will you celebrate your successes?
  • (Remember successes aren’t just the big things, celebrate the small wins too)
  • Who will you share your wins with? (Much better if it isn’t just you that knows!)

Here’s a quick recap of this simple 6-step plan to help you maximise the time you are being visible.

  1. Choose one area of visibility to focus on
  2. Do a mini review of where you’re at right now
  3. Set yourself one really clear goal to focus on
  4. Brainstorm lots of ways that you could improve your visibility on that area for the month
  5. Manage your mindset
  6. Put in some milestones

Call To Action: Your call to action this week is to commit to just ONE area of visibility to focus on.

You don’t need to do this on your own. If you want to get step-by-step support on how to make visibility easier in your business, and a plan to follow, then come and join my AMAZING community of business owners where you can work on your goals together, then check out my Rock Your Visibility programme. I take in 5 new members a month, so if you want to be in on this round drop me a PM (private message) on Facebook and I’ll let you know if we have any spots left for the month.

Here’s what one of my lovely members, Kim Marshall of www.kissgoodbyetoana.com has to say about it.

If you don’t build relationships you won’t build a good business.

Relationship building is VITAL.

You will keep hearing people say that people buy from people they know, like and trust and this is so true. Business happens when people connect with you, when they can relate to you.

There are so many benefits to connecting with your dreamies and building relationships with your dreamies:

  • It’s a great way to build relationships
  • You understand what your dreamies need, what their challenges are
  • Generating content ideas – blog posts, videos, resources, programmes and services
  • They may know someone who needs your help
  • Or may even be the one that needs your help
  • There could be collaboration opportunities
  • They may have great connections and help you spread the word about what you do
  • You learn from them about random things that make you a more interesting person to know, and more …

Problem #1: We’re impatient, we want instant results!

Hate to break it to ya honey – Relationship building takes time, don’t expect instant results.

Problem #2: We focus on adding to our tribe, and forget our fabulous current tribe

Make this your new mantra – follow up, follow up, follow up. If you’re not following up on people you’ve spoken to, you can end up losing clients.

Problem #3: We think we have to ‘sell’

Selling is about building relationships – take the word ‘selling’ out of the equation. You are building relationships with people. Some will work with you, some won’t and that’s totally OK because it’s not about selling to them, it’s about connection (which just happens to be one of my top values so that one is a win: win)

Doing a small amount to grow your business each day though makes a huge difference and it feels easy and simple. Isn’t that how we all want our businesses to be?

Selling is about being brave with knowing that what you offer is what people need, feeling confident that you can help people with your products/services. Then you are just having conversations about how to help, instead of trying to push people to buy from you.

A Super Simple Strategy To Start Building Relationships Today

  1. Make A List Of Everyone You Know:
    • Friends
    • Family
    • Past colleagues
    • Past clients
    • People from networking meetings
    • Online group contacts
    • People from training programmes you’ve done
    • Your social media connections
  1. Decide On One Area Of Focus, i.e: all of your Facebook connections to start with.
  1. Set A Target for how many people you want to connect with in set time period
  • Set a daily, weekly or monthly target
  1. Invite them to have a conversation with you
  1. Diarise – make a couple of simple notes and then set a date to follow-up again in a few months.

One strategy I use with my free Facebook group is to connect with every single person by inviting them to come on a 20-minute call with me. It’s a call to simply connect. I used to say it wasn’t a sales call, and it isn’t, but if I think I can help someone I will tell them, and then invite them onto a separate call to talk through how.

I have 3 separate messages:

  1. Invite them onto a chat with me
  2. Follow-up if they didn’t have a chat
  3. A  last reminder to connect with me.

If I haven’t heard from them by the 3rd time then I leave it for a while before contacting them again, usually 9-12 months so that I’m not harassing them. A lot can happen in that time so they might want a call after that time lapse.

You need to keep good records when doing this (Be GDPR compliant on that one too please!) I started with an Excel spreadsheet and I now use Asana to log my follow-up. It doesn’t really matter what method you use as long as you keep a note of when to follow up next. Did I say that follow up is important?!

Work out what the best strategy for you is – make it realistic.

If you want to do 12 people per week are you going to do 6 on one day, 6 on another or 4 lots of 3, or would you prefer to just spend a day contacting people each month? What would work best for you?

So, the key message from this is to follow-up, follow-up. Most people will leave it at the first conversation, or maybe conversation two. I came across a very old piece of paper from a course that I did many  years ago that said this:

  • 44% of people give up after one “No”
  • 22% of people give up after two “No’s”
  • 14% of people give up after three “No’s”
  • 12% of people give up after four “No’s”
  • 92% of people give up after five “No’s”

Now, I’m guessing the numbers will have changed (who knows how old that piece of paper was!) however, it suggests that only 8% of people invite people to buy from them after five no’s. Consider this, 80% of clients might say ‘no’ at least four times before they say ‘yes’. Will you be one of the people that hangs in there and invites them again? No? You could be leaving money on the table.

Ready to do that follow-up now?!

Call To Action: Pull together a follow-up plan for your business, and start to implement it.

If you’d like more help with this, I’ve created a lovely little worksheet to help you create beautiful boundaries in your business.

Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen. Are You Really Focused In Your Business?

In today’s blog post, I will share two ways to be super-focused in your business.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

I used to think I was really focused. I wasn’t. I was just under the illusion that I was.

I was working hard but I wasn’t focused on the right things.

I’d set up goals and then wonder at the end of it if I’d even achieved them because they weren’t that clear.  That was, until I read two books – ‘The One Thing’ & ‘The 12 Week Year’, which really changed how I do things.

Side note: I am also one of those weird people that loves bitty admin! If I can do a bit of admin instead of the bigger stuff then I will, it’s fun! (Yeah #Weird, I know!)

It all started with the book, “The One Thing” by Gary Keller – which in a nutshell is about focusing on ONE thing at a time. You don’t need to read it now haha. No, seriously, do read it. It will get you thinking differently about how you do things.

Sounds easy focusing on one thing, doesn’t it? It’s really challenging!

We think we’re good at focus, but are we really? I don’t know about you but I know that if I see a little red notification pop up on my phone, I’ve completely lost focus. I can’t concentrate until I check what it is. I have to turn off my notifications or they will take me off track. Same with the desktop app for my email. Seems silly really, but needs must.

I also know that I want to check my emails about 20 million times a day. Okay not that much but I’m guesstimating it would be nearly 75-100 times a day. I am working on checking it 3 times a day and it’s killing me man! I know I lose a huge chunk of time by checking email constantly, so have had to take drastic measures.

What if something comes up that needs action? It will be fine, I know that realistically, but my addiction wants me to ‘just check really quickly before you do your next task on the list, it will only take a moment’. Yeah, right, down the rabbit hole I go! Constant work in progress is what you should be hearing here!

If it’s client related, all of my clients know to message me in Asana (a project management tool) and not my inbox as I always have that open.

What I do now though is bring back the focus – I ask myself – “What am I meant to be working on right now?” And some days it’s something I have to ask myself a gazillion times a day. It’s actually a great thing to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed too. When you’ve only got one thing on the list to concentrate on you’re telling the other things they can wait until you’ve completed. Completing feels gooooood!

Focus on ONE single thing at a time. Tell yourself you CAN do it, even if like me you have to do it over and over again for it to actually happen!

Onto book two, the 12-Week Year. This book has been a game changer for me. Essentially you set yourself goals and then rate your performance against those goals, with stats. Have I lost you yet?!!

Let’s say you set a goal to create more content – the overall goal would be broken down into various elements and a percentage attached to it. Here’s what that might be like in practice:

Overall goal: Create 7 days of content to share across my 4 main social media platforms

Tasks to achieve that goal:

  1. Write 1 blog post
  2. Write 1 Facebook post
  3. Create a guest post plan – who to contact/when
  4. Do 1 Facebook live

So 4 elements, with 100% being the overall goal. Each element = 25% (100 divided by total number of tasks)

Now let’s say you only achieve 3 of 4 tasks, you will have hit 75% of your goal. The aim is to hit 86% or above.

All sounds easy, but you need to be REALLY clear on what the initial goal is and how to break it down or you can get to the end of the time period you’ve set without hitting your goal because there were more elements to it than you thought. So you learn very quickly about being really specific with your goals, so that they’re easily measured.

I usually set myself 3 main goals to work to, that way it’s not overwhelming and everything I’m working on is linked to those 3 goals. Often I’ve got one main business goal, one mindset goal and one personal goal, all of which get broken down into different elements.

This system isn’t for everyone and when I did the 90 Day Year it added even more structure to the mix, but if you’re someone that likes accountability then this might work for you. Either way, getting more clarity around what you want to achieve in your business will help you measure your goals much better and create way more success. You need to keep focused. Added bonus:  you won’t feel a slave to your notifications either!

Do you wish you could get potential clients booked into your diary with ease? It can be tough, can’t it? It can all feel like a struggle. You’re doing this business thing to make a difference but it feels like really hard work. Maybe you’ve told yourself this is the year it’s make or break. If it doesn’t work you’re going back to get a proper job and that makes your stomach turn.

You’re tired. Tired of being disappointed, tired of not getting the results for your hard work. I know, I’ve been there! With simple tweaks though, you can create discovery calls with your dreamie clients over and over again. Let me share with you how.

I used to wonder how you magically get people booking into your diary, until I learned what works best in my business. I tested it out with my clients and then a new system was born.

I spent a long time perfecting how to do discovery calls. I would say I’m still not perfect at it. I often give away far too much and cost myself a client!! However, I now convert to paying clients at about an 85% conversion rate, so today I thought I’d share with you what works for me and my clients in getting client calls booked into your diary.

Worst case, is you get to connect with people and that raises your visibility! What can you do in your business to create these gorgeous clients? Here’s some ideas to get your brain fired up!

Free discovery call, consult, etc..

Invite people onto a call to talk about how you might be able to help them. A quick call where you can ask what they are struggling with, make an assessment of how you can help and then share with them ways to work with you

Free taster session – strategy/discovery/relevant to your biz

Similar to the discovery call but this one is more about showcasing what you do. At the end of the call you can ask if they’d like to find out more about how to work with you. You can also do a mini action as part of the call and that will give you more chance to follow up

Client interviews/surveys – 10 questions (FAB for newbies)

A fabulous place to start if you don’t know who your dreamie clients are, or you just want to understand them better. Offer the client interview where you ask about 10-15 questions that will help you understand them better, then offer them a free taster session in return. Again, great for follow-up too as you can check in on their progress after the session.

Hold a webinar – Teach what you know, invite onto call

A great way to both build your list, credibility and opportunity to get discovery calls booked. They like your content, they want to find out more

Share great content

Something that MUST not be overlooked. You have to make sure you have great content. This will underpin what you do, help you to connect with your dreamie client and then make them want to talk to you. You can pop a call to action on your posts, your blog posts etc., but I’d say do this with caution as it’s much more compelling if there is a time limit on your discovery calls

Other people’s groups

Share an invite to chat with you on marketing days. What I would say here is make it more of a taster session for these than a discovery call as you’re more likely to get interest (and remember the group rules – not all groups allow for this)

Group chats/networking

Be brave with conversations. Just chat away in groups, networking and then if you think you can help that person, simply invite them onto a call with you.

Other things that you can try

Invite onto a call – as an add-on to group programmes. It’s a great way to help people that you only know in a group capacity, opportunity to offer them more 1:1 work if it’s relevant

Speaking gigs – make your call to action an invite to talk to you about how you can help them

Referrals / affiliates – invite onto a call as above to talk about how you can help

Email list – set a maximum number of clients you want to work with, invite people that are serious about working with you onto a call. Explain who it’s for and who it isn’t – i.e. It’s not for you if you aren’t ready to invest in working with me, not committed to take action etc.

So there you have it, lots of different ways that you can get people to jump on a call with you.

Remember, no conversation is wasted. That connection can lead into lots of new opportunities, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. If someone doesn’t sign up with you, there can be lots of reasons why – not the right time, not the right fit for them, they’re not ready yet etc. etc. Who knows where that connection will lead!

If you want more support with this, then check out my self-study programme – Discovery Call Magic where I take you through the process step-by-step so that you can create discovery calls as if by magic.

Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen. Is Being Visible Really Going To Bring Money Into Your Business?

In this blog post, I will share 5 things you need if you want your visibility to be successful.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

I often get asked if being visible really relates to getting results in your business.

The honest answer is that it depends.

On lots of things.

If you want your visibility to be successful, here’s 5 things you need:

  1. You need to know who you serve and how you can help

If you don’t get this piece of the puzzle right, then it doesn’t matter how visible you are, it just won’t be worth your efforts.

You CAN bring in clients, today or tomorrow, but you need to be super clear on who you are, what you offer and how you help.

I have a 5* model that I use to support my clients:

Connect with your passion – Get really clear on where your strengths lie. What do people come to you about? What do you love to do? What could you talk about for hours on end? What makes your heart sing? When you connect with your passion you’ll be speaking from the heart in your messaging and you’ll never run out of things to say. That passion will ooze out of you and people will want to find out more.

Connect with your dreamies – Get super clear on who you want to work with and how you help. This isn’t just about creating the boring client ‘avatar’, it’s about digging really deep. How can you create an emotional connection with your dreamie clients so that they identify with you? It’s also about working out where they are.

Connect with your offers – Once you know your passion and your dreamies then you really need to figure out what you want to offer. There needs to be a demand for what you’re offering, unless you’re completely unique and have an outstanding idea where you get to create the demand. Because you’ve already done the work and understand who they are and what support they need (in the Dreamies stage) then you’ll be clearer on what you need to create.

Connect with your message – Now you have steps 1-3 in place (what I call the sweet spot) you can then figure out what you want to say. This means when you put your messages out there people will understand what it is that you can help them with.

Now, there is a caveat with this, as when you’re just starting out you don’t always know who you want to work with, or how you can help. What I’d suggest there is to write out what you don’t want, in terms of clients, type of work etc. That way you’ll have a shortlist of what might work for you. You can then choose one to focus on for a while to ‘test’ it out and see if you like it.

Connect with your tribe – This is the real visibility piece. How are you going to get your message out there? – Video, guest posts, Facebook Lives, Instagram, blog posts, newsletters, groups etc. When thinking about this, I’d always suggest that you pick the ones you find the most fun. You’re much more likely to a) do them then and b) do them well.

Do this: Figure out these 5 areas and you’ll find things become a lot easier once you have.

  1. You need to be consistent

Just rocking up occasionally isn’t going to get you noticed. You need to take consistent action towards your goals. As an introvert, honestly, I’d love to just rock up now and then, but in reality that won’t bring in new business, and, well, I did kinda sign up to this whole visibility thing, didn’t I?! Gotta practice what I preach!

There are ways that you can be consistent though without you always doing it – scheduling is one, getting some support is another.

Do this: Decide how much time you can commit to being visible and then split it up into smaller parts, i.e. I can spent 2.5 hours a week being visible. That then becomes 30-minutes a day of visibility, so in that 30-minutes I will do xxx.

It might be something like this – “I will commit to doing 30-minutes every day on my visibility. I will do one Facebook live a week, connect with 3 people and share one post a day on social media.” etc. (You’ll probably have time left with all of that!)

  1. You need to make sure you’re investing your time in the right things and not just being visible for the sake of it

In business, there are always a million and one things you can do, the list won’t stop growing. So you need to consider whether you’re working smarter or harder. This one has honestly taken me a LONG time to do better. I was great at pushing and hustling, to the point of exhaustion.

Over time I realised that if I want to bring in business I needed to make sure that I did the right things in the right places. There’s no point trying to sell pizzas to people that are gluten free (unless of course you offer gluten free pizzas!) You need to be in the right places, places where your dreamie clients are. If you don’t know who they are, then go back to step 1.

Just being visible will help you feel good. For a while. Then it becomes clear that this strategy doesn’t work. So focus on being visible in the right places, you’ll spend less time on it and get better results.

Do this: Check where you’re investing your time. Are you in the right places? Are you in places that will bring you dreamie clients?

  1. You need to be super focused

If you’re constantly being distracted you will get nowhere.  You have to have single minded determination on what you want to achieve in your business. I’ve been doing the 90 Day Year programme by Todd Herman, and while I was pretty focused, I’m now super focused, and won’t let other things distract me. My goals are written the day before for the day ahead, and I stick to those goals.

Now, don’t get me wrong, my brain wants to go ALL over the place, to check in on Facebook, make a phone call, check my diary, or my personal nemesis of checking emails constantly, so I have to ask myself, “Is this helping me achieve my goal of xxx?”. If ‘yes’, then great, carry on, if ‘no’, then I need to get back to my goal pronto.

I work with one of my business besties and we can both easily distract each other and even though we’re talking work, it’s not helping us achieve our goals. I sometimes have to ignore the fabulous video that she sends that will help me with something in my biz and park it to review another day, instead of taking myself off track.

Luckily she knows me well enough now to know that when I send a message back saying, “Nope, not looking at this right now. #SuperFocus”, that it doesn’t mean I’m not interested, it just means it’s not my priority right now.

Do this: Keep a track of where your time is going? Notice if you’re setting goals, and then test that those goals are actually going to get you to your bigger goal.

  1. Notice what’s working/what’s not working

You can spend a lot of hours thinking something’s working when it’s not. My hubby taught me a problem-solving strategy years ago called PDCA, which is an acronym for Plan-Do-Check-Act. This is how I choose to run my business. I’m always reviewing what is giving me ROI (return on investment). This helps you to avoid doing jobs that aren’t beneficial. This is why in my Rock Your Visibility programme we only work on one area of visibility a month. That way you can test your ROI.

I also do this with my teamies constantly. I ask, ‘Can we do this a quicker, easier way?” That way they aren’t spending time on mundane tasks. We’re always looking at ways to make things more efficient. Efficiency = having a life!

Do this: Do a review of what’s working and what’s not. Ask yourself if it’s given you a good ROI of your time.

A quick recap for making visibility work better for you.

  1. Know who you serve and how you can help
  2. Be consistent
  3. Work smarter, not harder
  4. Be super focused
  5. Review and adapt

As I say to my clients, if money is an issue it can be worth getting work while you build up your business. Visibility isn’t quick – yes you can get some instant results, but when you’re in business you need to be in it for the long-term and visibility produces results over time. If you get work/continue work as you grow your business, then it will take the pressure off and you’ll enjoy it more as it’s not just about bringing in the money then.

What Would Your Future You Do?

In this blog post, I will share 3 mindset hacks to help you quieten down your mindset monkeys.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

When you want to get visible in your business, your little mindset monkeys start acting up, so you want all the mindset hacks you can get to quieten them down. In today’s episode, I’m sharing 3 simple mindset hacks to do just that.

So let’s say you’re about to publish a blog post, or do a Facebook live, maybe a little post in a big group, and you’re telling yourself you’re not good enough, who’s going to listen to you anyway, you’re not this big ‘expert’ that everyone tells you that you need to be. You’re just little ole you.

You’ve got some limiting beliefs holding you back. As we were taught on our coaching training, in the middle of the word beliefs, is the word ‘lie’. They are lies that your brain is telling you to keep you safe, so let’s work through this limiting belief.

  1. Challenge the limiting belief
  •  Why do you believe it?

It will help to know.

  •  When did you decide that?

Limiting beliefs start when we make a decision about something. The decision might be that you’re not good enough for example. At some point in time you will have made that decision, which is fabulous, because you can make a new empowering decision today.

  •  Where did this belief come from?

This is where we want to build some evidence for this belief. Quite often you’ll have lots of evidence, and that’s okay. We can still work with it.

  •  Find alternative evidence to contradict it

Now it’s time to break down that belief by getting evidence to the contrary. You may have to create some new evidence which will mean being a bit brave. As you build your evidence ‘library’ you’ll start to feel more confident and won’t be held back by your limiting belief.

You can be really successful in your business. We just need to get you a new monkey that helps you to believe that. As one of my clients said, a friendly, furry gremlin!

Next up you might be using negative language that’s holding you back. Let’s work on that one too.

  1. Change negative statement from present to past

Override your brain

Your brain can’t tell the difference between fact and reality which is why when you watch a movie and cry, it’s because your brain doesn’t know that it’s not true. So let’s move these negative statements into the past and let your brain assume they are there. Try these phrases on for size:

  •  In the past I used to be xxxx, now I’m ….. i.e. In the past I used to be rubbish at writing blog posts, now I’m learning by writing a few blog posts, and getting feedback

There’s always more to learn, even when you’re a master. Over time your skill will improve and you’ll be the expert you want to be. Letting go of the negative now will open you up to new possibilities.

The final mindset hack is about stepping into the future. When you imagine your future you, you can step into some of those qualities and traits that will boost your confidence.

  1. Imagine your future you, that’s feeling really confident.

How would the future you behave?

Maybe you’d be more confident, ask for more of what you need, reach out to people to invite them to work with you, create more videos, write a training programme. Act like that now, as if you already have all of those traits

What would you do differently?

Maybe you’d start your day slower, working on your mindset first. Maybe your diary wouldn’t be back to back with clients, but you’d create some space for your self-care so that you serve your clients while running on a full tank of energy

How would you go about your day?

Perhaps you’d have a massage booked in. Maybe you’d be in a mastermind group. Perhaps you’d be reading books on different topics to expand your knowledge around your area of expertise.

What would you see, hear and feel?

Perhaps it would be seeing a group of people in front of you that you’re talking to, maybe you’d hear your name being called as you’re being given an award. You might feel excited about your business, and want to share what you do with people so that you can have a bigger impact and help more people.

Step into that person now.

Think about the people you’d be surrounded by, your typical day, the person you’ve become. When you show up in your business, come from that place, the confident future you instead of the you that is full of self-doubt and worry.

One thing that’s certain about business is that it’s going to bring up any stuff that you need to deal with. It’s not just about learning how to do business, it’s also learning about how to manage your mindset. When you do that, business goes much better.

You may clear one limiting belief and another one rears its head. Now you have 3 simple mindset hacks that you can use to clear them and get on with what you want to do – run your business.

Call To Action: Commit to working on your mindset each day. It will set you up for business success. What do you need to tell your mindset monkeys today?
