If you are people pleasing, then it’s time to draw a line and create some healthy boundaries. People pleasing is something that takes time to overcome. It’s emotive.

What can happen over time, even with the best intentions is that you can become tired, or think it’s just not worth the effort and opt for a quiet life where you then start to back pedal and relapse. That’s absolutely normal so you just need to know that it’s a natural response, and something that may possibly happen to you if you’re planning to do things differently.

The issue (which is tough to hear) is that there may very well be self-worth issues underpinning your people-pleasing behaviour.  Yes it may have been a learnt behaviour but it’s now become intertwined with lower confidence potentially (Why do we like learned behaviours?  They can be changed – yay!)

This isn’t said to make you feel bad, but to help you to recognise how it may be affecting you in being truly authentic in your business and life. We can mistakenly think it’s just one area of our lives that it plays out, only to find that it’s impacting many areas.  It can make you feel frustrated, anxious, overwhelmed. It’s bad for your health and is draining and exhausting!

We all have different strengths and qualities to bring to the world.  You are just as important as everyone else, you just need to believe that.  You’re fabulous!

This isn’t about not helping people but it’s about knowing that a balanced relationship is about both party’s needs being met. We often say yes because we want to help, and come from a place of ‘should’ or ‘have to’. All this does is undermine our self-worth.

  1. Set boundaries in your biz

Boundaries. A simple word that can bring up a whole lot of challenge and push your buttons, but completely amazing when you start to get them right. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. So while you might think setting boundaries means you have to turn into a rude person, that’s just not the case. It’s all about communicating your boundaries with kindness and most importantly sticking to your boundaries once you’ve set them.

They could be for others, or even for yourself. Here’s a few ideas of where you could set boundaries in your biz:

  • Working day time only with clients
  • Creating set hours to reply to emails, i.e. Not before 10am or after 6pm
  • Getting your clients to take their own notes
  • Defining your working day – what time will you start/finish?
  • Having set days off

The ‘not taking client notes’ one is an easy trap to fall in. It’s not just this, but about doing everything for your client. It doesn’t help you of course, but more importantly it doesn’t help them. When I do too many things for my clients they become reliant on me for answers. My job isn’t just to help them in the moment but to give them tools that they can use going forward when they’re not working with me. They feel much more empowered when they’ve come up with the answer on their own and/or taken responsibility for their part in the process.

For example, some of my clients will ask me to nudge them on certain dates about what they want to be accountable for, so I will get them to take control of that and tell them to message me on that date to let me know how they are getting on. This means they will feel more in control which in turn boosts their confidence. I will do regular check-ins but the onus is on them to complete the tasks, not for me to create a long list of follow-ups with all of my clients.

  1. Practice Saying ‘No’

When I first started saying ‘no’ to people I found it really challenging.

Then I started creating templates of what I wanted to say so that it was something to work from if I did need to say ‘no’. It felt easier going to a template to craft the message, than going to my default of ‘Yes, of course I’ll do xxx for you, even though it will mean I have to work extra hours to get through my own list of tasks.’

There are only so many hours in the day and while you want to say ‘yes’ to everything. It’s not always possible.

I now have templates for all of the following areas:

  • Invitations to be interviewed via a blog/podcast
  • Joint collaborations – requests for me to provide content
  • Promotion of someone’s event
  • Unpaid speaking engagements
  • Guest post requests (writing for me / them)

Check out this post by Alexandra Franzen. She’s a beautiful wordsmith – lots of my messages started from her fabulous wording.

It really helps to have templates, that way you won’t end up buckling under the pressure and feeling guilty for saying ‘no’.

  1. Stop constantly helping people for free

As your business grows, so do the requests from people. The problem we can have as service-based business owners, is that we genuinely want to help, and sometimes that can mean we give away waaaaaaay too much of our free time.

At first it might be giving away lots of free sessions of one type or another. Over time, because of your generosity you can become the go-to-person for free support and guidance – as one of my business coach friends would put it – free consultancy.

It’s time to know that what that means is you’re offering great value and people want what you have. If they’re not willing to pay for it though you have a hobby, not a business. Check out this post for 3 ways you can say no to people who want to pick your brains for free

It’s one thing being of service, and another where people are abusing your generosity. That’s kind of your fault though, as you’ve trained them to be that way. Harsh but true! You need to draw the line and create how you want it to be going forward.

When you look after you and set clear boundaries, you’ll actually find that instead of people being annoyed with you, they start to notice what boundaries they set in their own life.

I’m often told I inspire others to set really good boundaries, because I’m so clear with mine. It doesn’t mean I’m perfect by any means, I’ll back pedal too. The difference is that over time you notice when it happens much quicker, and add in new boundaries as you go to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Call to Action: Choose one area in your business that isn’t quite working for you, and set a lovely new boundary around it.

If you’d like more help with this, I’ve created a lovely little worksheet to help you create beautiful boundaries in your business.

Are You Really Focused In Your Business?

In today’s blog post, I will share two ways to be super-focused in your business.

Read Full Transcript below...

I used to think I was really focused. I wasn’t. I was just under the illusion that I was.

I was working hard but I wasn’t focused on the right things.

I’d set up goals and then wonder at the end of it if I’d even achieved them because they weren’t that clear.  That was, until I read two books – ‘The One Thing’ & ‘The 12 Week Year’, which really changed how I do things.

Side note: I am also one of those weird people that loves bitty admin! If I can do a bit of admin instead of the bigger stuff then I will, it’s fun! (Yeah #Weird, I know!)

It all started with the book, “The One Thing” by Gary Keller – which in a nutshell is about focusing on ONE thing at a time. You don’t need to read it now haha. No, seriously, do read it. It will get you thinking differently about how you do things.

Sounds easy focusing on one thing, doesn’t it? It’s really challenging!

We think we’re good at focus, but are we really? I don’t know about you but I know that if I see a little red notification pop up on my phone, I’ve completely lost focus. I can’t concentrate until I check what it is. I have to turn off my notifications or they will take me off track. Same with the desktop app for my email. Seems silly really, but needs must.

I also know that I want to check my emails about 20 million times a day. Okay not that much but I’m guesstimating it would be nearly 75-100 times a day. I am working on checking it 3 times a day and it’s killing me man! I know I lose a huge chunk of time by checking email constantly, so have had to take drastic measures.

What if something comes up that needs action? It will be fine, I know that realistically, but my addiction wants me to ‘just check really quickly before you do your next task on the list, it will only take a moment’. Yeah, right, down the rabbit hole I go! Constant work in progress is what you should be hearing here!

If it’s client related, all of my clients know to message me in Asana (a project management tool) and not my inbox as I always have that open.

What I do now though is bring back the focus – I ask myself – “What am I meant to be working on right now?” And some days it’s something I have to ask myself a gazillion times a day. It’s actually a great thing to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed too. When you’ve only got one thing on the list to concentrate on you’re telling the other things they can wait until you’ve completed. Completing feels gooooood!

Focus on ONE single thing at a time. Tell yourself you CAN do it, even if like me you have to do it over and over again for it to actually happen!

Onto book two, the 12-Week Year. This book has been a game changer for me. Essentially you set yourself goals and then rate your performance against those goals, with stats. Have I lost you yet?!!

Let’s say you set a goal to create more content – the overall goal would be broken down into various elements and a percentage attached to it. Here’s what that might be like in practice:

Overall goal: Create 7 days of content to share across my 4 main social media platforms

Tasks to achieve that goal:

  1. Write 1 blog post
  2. Write 1 Facebook post
  3. Create a guest post plan – who to contact/when
  4. Do 1 Facebook live

So 4 elements, with 100% being the overall goal. Each element = 25% (100 divided by total number of tasks)

Now let’s say you only achieve 3 of 4 tasks, you will have hit 75% of your goal. The aim is to hit 86% or above.

All sounds easy, but you need to be REALLY clear on what the initial goal is and how to break it down or you can get to the end of the time period you’ve set without hitting your goal because there were more elements to it than you thought. So you learn very quickly about being really specific with your goals, so that they’re easily measured.

I usually set myself 3 main goals to work to, that way it’s not overwhelming and everything I’m working on is linked to those 3 goals. Often I’ve got one main business goal, one mindset goal and one personal goal, all of which get broken down into different elements.

This system isn’t for everyone and when I did the 90 Day Year it added even more structure to the mix, but if you’re someone that likes accountability then this might work for you. Either way, getting more clarity around what you want to achieve in your business will help you measure your goals much better and create way more success. You need to keep focused. Added bonus:  you won’t feel a slave to your notifications either!

Call to Action: Check in with yourself – how focused are you really being? Maybe it’s time to start to notice and then make some changes!

Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen. Do you wish you could get potential clients booked into your diary with ease? It can be tough, can’t it? It can all feel like a struggle. You’re doing this business thing to make a difference but it feels like really hard work. Maybe you’ve told yourself this is the year it’s make or break. If it doesn’t work you’re going back to get a proper job and that makes your stomach turn.

You’re tired. Tired of being disappointed, tired of not getting the results for your hard work. I know, I’ve been there! With simple tweaks though, you can create discovery calls with your dreamie clients over and over again. Let me share with you how.

I used to wonder how you magically get people booking into your diary, until I learned what works best in my business. I tested it out with my clients and then a new system was born.

I spent a long time perfecting how to do discovery calls. I would say I’m still not perfect at it. I often give away far too much and cost myself a client!! However, I now convert to paying clients at about an 85% conversion rate, so today I thought I’d share with you what works for me and my clients in getting client calls booked into your diary.

Worst case, is you get to connect with people and that raises your visibility! What can you do in your business to create these gorgeous clients? Here’s some ideas to get your brain fired up!

Free discovery call, consult, etc..

Invite people onto a call to talk about how you might be able to help them. A quick call where you can ask what they are struggling with, make an assessment of how you can help and then share with them ways to work with you

Free taster session – strategy/discovery/relevant to your biz

Similar to the discovery call but this one is more about showcasing what you do. At the end of the call you can ask if they’d like to find out more about how to work with you. You can also do a mini action as part of the call and that will give you more chance to follow up

Client interviews/surveys – 10 questions (FAB for newbies)

A fabulous place to start if you don’t know who your dreamie clients are, or you just want to understand them better. Offer the client interview where you ask about 10-15 questions that will help you understand them better, then offer them a free taster session in return. Again, great for follow-up too as you can check in on their progress after the session.

Hold a webinar – Teach what you know, invite onto call

A great way to both build your list, credibility and opportunity to get discovery calls booked. They like your content, they want to find out more

Share great content

Something that MUST not be overlooked. You have to make sure you have great content. This will underpin what you do, help you to connect with your dreamie client and then make them want to talk to you. You can pop a call to action on your posts, your blog posts etc., but I’d say do this with caution as it’s much more compelling if there is a time limit on your discovery calls

Other people’s groups

Share an invite to chat with you on marketing days. What I would say here is make it more of a taster session for these than a discovery call as you’re more likely to get interest (and remember the group rules – not all groups allow for this)

Group chats/networking

Be brave with conversations. Just chat away in groups, networking and then if you think you can help that person, simply invite them onto a call with you.

Other things that you can try

Invite onto a call – as an add-on to group programmes. It’s a great way to help people that you only know in a group capacity, opportunity to offer them more 1:1 work if it’s relevant

Speaking gigs – make your call to action an invite to talk to you about how you can help them

Referrals / affiliates – invite onto a call as above to talk about how you can help

Email list – set a maximum number of clients you want to work with, invite people that are serious about working with you onto a call. Explain who it’s for and who it isn’t – i.e. It’s not for you if you aren’t ready to invest in working with me, not committed to take action etc.

So there you have it, lots of different ways that you can get people to jump on a call with you.

Remember, no conversation is wasted. That connection can lead into lots of new opportunities, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. If someone doesn’t sign up with you, there can be lots of reasons why – not the right time, not the right fit for them, they’re not ready yet etc. etc. Who knows where that connection will lead!

If you want more support with this, then check out my self-study programme – Discovery Call Magic where I take you through the process step-by-step so that you can create discovery calls as if by magic.

Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen. Is Being Visible Really Going To Bring Money Into Your Business?

In this blog post, I will share 5 things you need if you want your visibility to be successful.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

I often get asked if being visible really relates to getting results in your business.

The honest answer is that it depends.

On lots of things.

If you want your visibility to be successful, here’s 5 things you need:

  1. You need to know who you serve and how you can help

If you don’t get this piece of the puzzle right, then it doesn’t matter how visible you are, it just won’t be worth your efforts.

You CAN bring in clients, today or tomorrow, but you need to be super clear on who you are, what you offer and how you help.

I have a 5* model that I use to support my clients:

Connect with your passion – Get really clear on where your strengths lie. What do people come to you about? What do you love to do? What could you talk about for hours on end? What makes your heart sing? When you connect with your passion you’ll be speaking from the heart in your messaging and you’ll never run out of things to say. That passion will ooze out of you and people will want to find out more.

Connect with your dreamies – Get super clear on who you want to work with and how you help. This isn’t just about creating the boring client ‘avatar’, it’s about digging really deep. How can you create an emotional connection with your dreamie clients so that they identify with you? It’s also about working out where they are.

Connect with your offers – Once you know your passion and your dreamies then you really need to figure out what you want to offer. There needs to be a demand for what you’re offering, unless you’re completely unique and have an outstanding idea where you get to create the demand. Because you’ve already done the work and understand who they are and what support they need (in the Dreamies stage) then you’ll be clearer on what you need to create.

Connect with your message – Now you have steps 1-3 in place (what I call the sweet spot) you can then figure out what you want to say. This means when you put your messages out there people will understand what it is that you can help them with.

Now, there is a caveat with this, as when you’re just starting out you don’t always know who you want to work with, or how you can help. What I’d suggest there is to write out what you don’t want, in terms of clients, type of work etc. That way you’ll have a shortlist of what might work for you. You can then choose one to focus on for a while to ‘test’ it out and see if you like it.

Connect with your tribe – This is the real visibility piece. How are you going to get your message out there? – Video, guest posts, Facebook Lives, Instagram, blog posts, newsletters, groups etc. When thinking about this, I’d always suggest that you pick the ones you find the most fun. You’re much more likely to a) do them then and b) do them well.

Do this: Figure out these 5 areas and you’ll find things become a lot easier once you have.

  1. You need to be consistent

Just rocking up occasionally isn’t going to get you noticed. You need to take consistent action towards your goals. As an introvert, honestly, I’d love to just rock up now and then, but in reality that won’t bring in new business, and, well, I did kinda sign up to this whole visibility thing, didn’t I?! Gotta practice what I preach!

There are ways that you can be consistent though without you always doing it – scheduling is one, getting some support is another.

Do this: Decide how much time you can commit to being visible and then split it up into smaller parts, i.e. I can spent 2.5 hours a week being visible. That then becomes 30-minutes a day of visibility, so in that 30-minutes I will do xxx.

It might be something like this – “I will commit to doing 30-minutes every day on my visibility. I will do one Facebook live a week, connect with 3 people and share one post a day on social media.” etc. (You’ll probably have time left with all of that!)

  1. You need to make sure you’re investing your time in the right things and not just being visible for the sake of it

In business, there are always a million and one things you can do, the list won’t stop growing. So you need to consider whether you’re working smarter or harder. This one has honestly taken me a LONG time to do better. I was great at pushing and hustling, to the point of exhaustion.

Over time I realised that if I want to bring in business I needed to make sure that I did the right things in the right places. There’s no point trying to sell pizzas to people that are gluten free (unless of course you offer gluten free pizzas!) You need to be in the right places, places where your dreamie clients are. If you don’t know who they are, then go back to step 1.

Just being visible will help you feel good. For a while. Then it becomes clear that this strategy doesn’t work. So focus on being visible in the right places, you’ll spend less time on it and get better results.

Do this: Check where you’re investing your time. Are you in the right places? Are you in places that will bring you dreamie clients?

  1. You need to be super focused

If you’re constantly being distracted you will get nowhere.  You have to have single minded determination on what you want to achieve in your business. I’ve been doing the 90 Day Year programme by Todd Herman, and while I was pretty focused, I’m now super focused, and won’t let other things distract me. My goals are written the day before for the day ahead, and I stick to those goals.

Now, don’t get me wrong, my brain wants to go ALL over the place, to check in on Facebook, make a phone call, check my diary, or my personal nemesis of checking emails constantly, so I have to ask myself, “Is this helping me achieve my goal of xxx?”. If ‘yes’, then great, carry on, if ‘no’, then I need to get back to my goal pronto.

I work with one of my business besties and we can both easily distract each other and even though we’re talking work, it’s not helping us achieve our goals. I sometimes have to ignore the fabulous video that she sends that will help me with something in my biz and park it to review another day, instead of taking myself off track.

Luckily she knows me well enough now to know that when I send a message back saying, “Nope, not looking at this right now. #SuperFocus”, that it doesn’t mean I’m not interested, it just means it’s not my priority right now.

Do this: Keep a track of where your time is going? Notice if you’re setting goals, and then test that those goals are actually going to get you to your bigger goal.

  1. Notice what’s working/what’s not working

You can spend a lot of hours thinking something’s working when it’s not. My hubby taught me a problem-solving strategy years ago called PDCA, which is an acronym for Plan-Do-Check-Act. This is how I choose to run my business. I’m always reviewing what is giving me ROI (return on investment). This helps you to avoid doing jobs that aren’t beneficial. This is why in my Rock Your Visibility programme we only work on one area of visibility a month. That way you can test your ROI.

I also do this with my teamies constantly. I ask, ‘Can we do this a quicker, easier way?” That way they aren’t spending time on mundane tasks. We’re always looking at ways to make things more efficient. Efficiency = having a life!

Do this: Do a review of what’s working and what’s not. Ask yourself if it’s given you a good ROI of your time.

A quick recap for making visibility work better for you.

  1. Know who you serve and how you can help
  2. Be consistent
  3. Work smarter, not harder
  4. Be super focused
  5. Review and adapt

As I say to my clients, if money is an issue it can be worth getting work while you build up your business. Visibility isn’t quick – yes you can get some instant results, but when you’re in business you need to be in it for the long-term and visibility produces results over time. If you get work/continue work as you grow your business, then it will take the pressure off and you’ll enjoy it more as it’s not just about bringing in the money then.

Use The Law Of Attraction To Create Business Success

In this blog post, I will talk about setting intentions for your day to create business success.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

I’m a great believer in setting intentions for your day. Setting intentions is a great way to activate the Law of Attraction. If you’ve never done Law of Attraction before, and want to know what I mean a nice little book to get you started is ‘Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting’ by Lynn Grabhorn.

Another one you may know is ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne. There is a bit of controversy around The Secret because people don’t believe it’s ‘proper’ Law of Attraction. While it does focus more on material things, it was a great introduction for me into it.

What is Law of Attraction?

Well firstly, let me start by saying I am not a teacher of it, I just use it for my life, so just take what you like from my random musings! I’ve ‘manifested’ (brought in) lots of fabulous things into my life, such as a training job, a new car, people, opportunities and more.

It’s basically the idea that what you focus on is what you attract, that thoughts become things.

The thinking is that if you FEEL poor, you’ll attract less money coming your way. If you FEEL sad, you’ll attract more sad things in your life etc. etc.

I come from a religious background, my family are all very religious. What I love about the Law of Attraction is that it’s all very positive. You’re not going to be damned and sent to hell if you don’t do this or that (but hey, that’s just my personal experience of it and I’m very much a person that believes in live and let live’) Everyone has their own way to be spiritual, and this is mine.

If you’re up for a bit of ‘woo’ then read on.

(I hadn’t heard of ‘woo’, or ‘woo woo’ which is what ‘woo’ is short for, until a few years ago, and wondered what on earth it meant. I like to think of it as a set of spiritual beliefs – magical thinking if you like, and while it can cover all sorts of different areas, you get to choose how much ‘woo’ you allow into your life)

How do you set intentions?

The way I do intention setting is to think about how I want each day to go, how I want to FEEL.

One of the strategies I use is a fun little Law of Attraction exercise I learned a few years ago from one of my mentors, Geraldine Kelly, where you simply draw a line down the centre of a piece of paper. On one side you put all you want to do that day and on the other you treat the Universe as your employee and write down all of the tasks you want them to do.

You can really have fun with it. It definitely shifts your mindset where you are delegating those tasks you’re either not sure how to do, or you need some support with. You’ll be amazed at what can happen when you do.

Mike Dooley, a New York best selling author and speaker, has a similar exercise where you draw a triangle on your page. At the top of the triangle you write your overall goal and then on each side of the triangle you write what you want to do and what you want the Universe to do. Both are pretty much the same. My Virgo brain can’t cope with the triangle though because there’s no room to write what I need and it looks messy!

For an intention, you simply think about what you want to be/do/have and then release it as if it’s already happened.

You can even do what’s known as ‘future segmenting’, where you set an intention for the next block of time, i.e. this morning I want to be/do/have x,y,z. Just have a play with it and see where it takes you.

Remember to really get into how you want to FEEL. Ultimately, you want to be thinking how you can bring fun and happiness into what you’re doing and that can help. When you do that you’ll be getting into really good feelings and that will attract more things to feel good about.

You then just need to trust that whatever you’ve set as an intention is possible, and let go of the attachment to the outcome. That can often be the hardest part!

Think of what you could intend for your business:

  • Easy to write copy for your website
  • A steady stream of clients coming your way
  • Lots of content ideas so that you know exactly what to write for your blog posts, newsletters etc.
  • Getting your fabulous message out to exactly the right people so that you can really make a difference in the world
  • And cappuccinos of course!

And SO much more….

Call To Action:

Set your intentions for this coming week. What would be a fabulous outcome for you by the end of the week?

Write down whatever comes up for you. Release any fears that might come up around them. You can guarantee those pesky mindset monkeys will try to lead you to believe that what you’ve written isn’t possible. Clear that up as quickly as possible.

What would you love to achieve, and how you can use the Law of Attraction to help you achieve amazing things in your business?

Once you’ve got your list write down one action that you’ll take to help you make it happen, i.e. If you wrote an intention of having a steady stream of clients, what action could you take today to invite people to want to talk about working with you?

Setting intentions is part of the process, taking action as well though is when the magic happens!

When you want to get visible in your business, your little mindset monkeys start acting up, so you want all the mindset hacks you can get to quieten them down. In today’s episode, I’m sharing 3 simple mindset hacks to do just that.

So let’s say you’re about to publish a blog post, or do a Facebook live, maybe a little post in a big group, and you’re telling yourself you’re not good enough, who’s going to listen to you anyway, you’re not this big ‘expert’ that everyone tells you that you need to be. You’re just little ole you.

You’ve got some limiting beliefs holding you back. As we were taught on our coaching training, in the middle of the word beliefs, is the word ‘lie’. They are lies that your brain is telling you to keep you safe, so let’s work through this limiting belief.

  1. Challenge the limiting belief
  •  Why do you believe it?

It will help to know.

  •  When did you decide that?

Limiting beliefs start when we make a decision about something. The decision might be that you’re not good enough for example. At some point in time you will have made that decision, which is fabulous, because you can make a new empowering decision today.

  •  Where did this belief come from?

This is where we want to build some evidence for this belief. Quite often you’ll have lots of evidence, and that’s okay. We can still work with it.

  •  Find alternative evidence to contradict it

Now it’s time to break down that belief by getting evidence to the contrary. You may have to create some new evidence which will mean being a bit brave. As you build your evidence ‘library’ you’ll start to feel more confident and won’t be held back by your limiting belief.

You can be really successful in your business. We just need to get you a new monkey that helps you to believe that. As one of my clients said, a friendly, furry gremlin!

Next up you might be using negative language that’s holding you back. Let’s work on that one too.

  1. Change negative statement from present to past

Override your brain

Your brain can’t tell the difference between fact and reality which is why when you watch a movie and cry, it’s because your brain doesn’t know that it’s not true. So let’s move these negative statements into the past and let your brain assume they are there. Try these phrases on for size:

  •  In the past I used to be xxxx, now I’m ….. i.e. In the past I used to be rubbish at writing blog posts, now I’m learning by writing a few blog posts, and getting feedback

There’s always more to learn, even when you’re a master. Over time your skill will improve and you’ll be the expert you want to be. Letting go of the negative now will open you up to new possibilities.

The final mindset hack is about stepping into the future. When you imagine your future you, you can step into some of those qualities and traits that will boost your confidence.

  1. Imagine your future you, that’s feeling really confident.

How would the future you behave?

Maybe you’d be more confident, ask for more of what you need, reach out to people to invite them to work with you, create more videos, write a training programme. Act like that now, as if you already have all of those traits

What would you do differently?

Maybe you’d start your day slower, working on your mindset first. Maybe your diary wouldn’t be back to back with clients, but you’d create some space for your self-care so that you serve your clients while running on a full tank of energy

How would you go about your day?

Perhaps you’d have a massage booked in. Maybe you’d be in a mastermind group. Perhaps you’d be reading books on different topics to expand your knowledge around your area of expertise.

What would you see, hear and feel?

Perhaps it would be seeing a group of people in front of you that you’re talking to, maybe you’d hear your name being called as you’re being given an award. You might feel excited about your business, and want to share what you do with people so that you can have a bigger impact and help more people.

Step into that person now.

Think about the people you’d be surrounded by, your typical day, the person you’ve become. When you show up in your business, come from that place, the confident future you instead of the you that is full of self-doubt and worry.

One thing that’s certain about business is that it’s going to bring up any stuff that you need to deal with. It’s not just about learning how to do business, it’s also learning about how to manage your mindset. When you do that, business goes much better.

You may clear one limiting belief and another one rears its head. Now you have 3 simple mindset hacks that you can use to clear them and get on with what you want to do – run your business.

Call To Action: Commit to working on your mindset each day. It will set you up for business success. What do you need to tell your mindset monkeys today?

How Strategic Are You Being With Your Facebook Groups?

If you want to be visible then Facebook groups are a great place to be.

You get to build relationships in them.

You can do market research by noticing what people need, what they are struggling with

You can make some fabulous friendships.

The problem is that being on social media can completely take over your day. You start at 9am thinking you’ll just spend a few minutes chatting and before you know it, it’s lunchtime and you’ve got nothing done. Fun though the chatting was.

If you want to maximise your time then you need to think more strategically about how you spend your time in groups.

Fact: Time = Money, so you want to make that time really count.

WHERE TO START

Go through your current list of groups and choose 5 that would make it to the top of your list. Here’s some guidelines to help you.

GROUP SIZE

Check the size of the group – Is it the kind of size of group you like to spend time in?

Some people like bigger groups, the opportunity to connect with more people. Others like more intimate groups, the opportunity to connect on a deeper level with people.

TYPE OF POSTS

Are the posts all salesy, or are people getting involved in real conversations. If you’re someone that just wants to promote then a salesy group might work for you (I’d say avoid them like the plague because people won’t notice you and it can become a spam fest over time with no real value, but this isn’t about me, it’s about what works for you)

HOW ACTIVE IS THE GROUP?

If people are asking questions and nobody is replying then is it the right group for you? It might be that you want to give it a go if you think your dreamie clients are in there, maybe you can get some good conversational posts going if that’s what you’re good at. If nobody is chatting though, it could suggest that the group isn’t that active, so would you really want to spend your time in there.

DOES YOUR GROUP SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE?

If you’re spiritual and going into a group that isn’t spiritual then is it going to give you what you need from a group? Will there be potential dreamies in the group for you?

Once you’ve done this mini review you can start to work out your top 5.

WILL YOU LEARN FROM THE GROUP?

You might be joining because you want to learn from people who have a different skill set to you, or who are a bit further ahead than you. It’s not always about searching for clients!

GOT YOUR 5? TIME TO TEST IT

Set some time limits around how long you want to test the group for. Maybe a week, a month, three months? Give yourself some time to really get involved and find out if it’s the right fit for you, in terms of people, content, vibe etc. If it’s not then revisit your list and replace it with another group to test.

ENGAGE

So you’ve done your research and got your top 5. Now it’s time to engage.

Don’t want to go down that rabbit hole? Set yourself a timer. I love using the Pomodoro Technique for this kind of thing. It’s essentially a 25-minute timer and keeps you super focused. In that 25 minutes you could challenge yourself to comment on 3 people’s posts and write one of your own posts.

You’ve probably already got lots of old content that you can repurpose. You just need to think creatively as to how to use it. This particular post has been repurposed from a training I wrote for my Rock Your Visibility programme. I’m using a tiny piece of that content and turning it into a blog post. You could do the same principle with content, by turning a blog post into snippets of content, or a video you’ve recorded with tips etc.

Remember, while being on social media can be fun. It can also take you away from what you really need to be doing. Yes, a big part of running your business is about connecting, but it doesn’t mean you don’t need to be strategic about it.

Call to Action: Think about how you could be more strategic with engaging in groups this week.

Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen. Your Negativity Could Be Costing You Clients

In this blog post, I will share how you can take control of your life through choices you make.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

Have you ever come across the phrase ‘cause and effect’ when it comes to being in control of your life? It’s an NLP language pattern and could be something that’s costing you lots of time, energy and maybe even dreamie clients.

What’s it all about?

If you’re at ‘EFFECT’ someone/something else is in control of your life

  • One thing causes another (the effect)
  • You blame others for not succeeding
  • You come from a disempowered place because you believe you are reliant on situations / circumstances / people to effect change

If you’re at ‘CAUSE’ you’re in control of your life

  • You create your life
  • You take responsibility for your life and what happens in it
  • You come from a powerful place because you believe you can effect change

I know which place I’d rather be in. The one where I get to create my world, where I’m in control and taking responsibility for my life and what happens in it. It isn’t wishful thinking, it doesn’t mean things won’t go wrong, they probably will, that’s life, but it’s your reaction to them that counts.

Let’s use Facebook for visibility as an example. We all know the algorithms have changed and it’s been more challenging to reach our audiences. (Personally I’m super grateful to Facebook, it’s helped me connect with some amazing business owners, dreamie clients, and more importantly incredible friends).

So, if you’re at effect, you might say, “The algorithms are ruining my business, I might as well give up and get a job”.  However, if you’re at cause, you might say, “So the algorithms have changed, what can I do differently to boost my engagement?”

It’s easier to blame others though, isn’t it? We can pass on all responsibility to someone else, it’s easier.

It’s alright for ‘so and so’, they’ve got money to throw around to build their business, they get all the lucky breaks, there are just too many people out there doing what you do, it’s no wonder your business isn’t working, right?

WRONG.

If that’s your thinking then it’s time to turn it around.

Nobody is to blame if your business isn’t working, and that includes you! Blame doesn’t serve anybody, it will help you wallow, not take action. You can take responsibility for being where you are right now, for the decisions that you’ve made bringing you to this place in your business journey. Nobody is at fault. Don’t give your power away. Take ownership of your business and life.

If you want to be successful you want to be at cause – in control. You’re an owner of your business, now you get to be the owner of your life too! How cool is that?!

When you’re at cause you aren’t a victim, you’re a powerful business owner, who can choose what action to take to build your business.

Just think for a moment, how making the decision to live at cause will impact your business.

So you didn’t sign up that new client. You can decide that it doesn’t matter if there’s lots of business owners out there doing what you do. You could spend time figuring out what makes you different, whether your services were the right fit for that client and how you can make the next call go better.

Your launch didn’t go so well. You can choose to focus on what did go well. Maybe following everyone else’s blueprint doesn’t work for you. Maybe it’s time to pull together a different way of launching, one that feels easy and flows.

You didn’t hit the numbers you wanted to hit in your business this month. You get to decide how you can do things differently next month. You don’t need to stay in victim mode, feeling like the world is against you, you can feel instantly empowered, ready to take action and with a fire in your belly for your business, all by making the decision that you get to choose how you run your business (and life!)

You didn’t get all of the work done that you set out to do. That’s okay too. You can sit down and work out what really needed to be done, and choose to figure out a smarter way of working going forward, one where you set clearer goals and measurable targets.

If you want your business to be successful, DECIDE today for it to be so and then go out there and make it happen! You’ve got what it takes, now go show us what you’ve got!

Call To Action: Figure out if you’re at cause or effect. Let me know what decision you make from listening to/reading this post and what action you’ll take as a result.

Are You Trying To Be Mary Poppins In Your Biz?

In this blog post, I will share why you don’t need to be a perfect business owner to be successful.

Join my free FB community to connect with me and other fabulous solopreneurs to help you Rock Your Fabulous Biz.

Read Full Transcript below...

You don’t need to be Mary Poppins, or practically perfect, and you probably don’t even have the time! You need to go with 80% perfect and that needs to be good enough, or you’ll never make any money in your business!

In what way are you a perfectionist? Perfectionism is all about having super high standards, the dictionary definition when I Googled it says this – “Refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.” Wow, so much pressure! If this is you, then it’s time to change. Life gets SO much more fun when you just loosen up a bit (I know!)

What’s going on?

Fear of judgement – Ironic really when the biggest person that’s judging you is you!

Fear of failure – you WILL make mistakes, fact! Make them, learn from them. It’s feedback, not failure.

Fear of ‘it’ not being good enough – Check the impact, ‘How much will this really matter in three months, six months, one year’s time?’

Imposter Syndrome – Where you think you’re going to be found out. You are – you’re going to be found out to be the fabulous person that you are.

I bet if you think about your family and best friends, you could share one thing that’s not perfect about them. If you can’t, then they’re probably perfectionists and hiding their weaknesses really well! We all have them.

A story about perfectionism

What expectations are you putting on yourself?

Let me share one of my personal experiences, which may help you realise that if you do have perfectionist traits you’re not on your own!

I went for my IIC & M (International Institute of Coaching & Mentoring) Accredited Senior Coach assessment. I was really nervous about it and procrastinated over it for about a year and a half. I finally did the assessment and I was stressed out all day waiting for the call to just be over and done with.

The main reason for my fear was that I’m not what you call a ‘purist’ coach, I don’t just coach, I bring in mentoring too, and for this assessment I had to stick to pure coaching.  I knew I’d passed as I was told on the call, and I got some great feedback.

I then just had to wait for the certificate and the actual grade to come through. When it did, I was really disappointed. The pass mark was 75%, I got 86%. I didn’t think I’d done that well. I completely discounted that I’d passed and was now an Accredited Senior Coach, all because of a silly number. My brain still says I should have got a higher grade but I have to remind my mindset monkey that it’s okay not to be perfect!

Are you perfect? No?? Why not??!!

I wrote about perfectionism in the chapters of a book I co-authored. Here’s an extract…

“Now you might not want to hear this. Perfectionism is also hiding a lack of confidence and the need to be liked.

Think about it for a moment…

  •      You don’t want to send out that letter with a typo on. Why? You don’t want people to think you’re unprofessional.
  •      You don’t want to put a post on social media that’s less than perfect. Why? Because you’re worried about what people think.
  •      You don’t start a new action/activity. Why? Because you think someone will do it better than you can.

We want people to like us, there is a need for approval and we think if we show any flaws then people won’t like us. Well, you know what you are NEVER going to get everyone to like you. NEVER. Some people will totally love and get you. Others might think you’re crazy or you might drive them crazy.

The tip to working through your perfectionism is you need to learn to let go.

For those of you that are perfectionists, I know, how on earth do you do that, it’s impossible, right?! Well, it can be done but it’s uncomfortable for a while.

Why is it so hard to do a less than perfect job, but so comfortable to attempt a better job?

Perfectionism doesn’t just affect your life, it may be really stifling your business/work too. I like things to be perfect, but I’m slowly learning that 80% can be good enough. My online coaching programmes might never have launched if I hadn’t chosen just to release them into the world and tweak as I go. People are taking steps in their businesses because I put myself out there; fear and faults, or not.

So what’s wrong with wanting to do a really good job or creating something perfect? Nothing. It’s when the judgement, analysis and criticism kick in that it becomes a problem. It’s when it stops us in our tracks, preventing us from moving forward that we need to recognise it’s holding us back.

Don’t let perfectionism ruin your life and/or work. Take some steps to deal with it.”

Become a work in progress like me!

Perfectionism is self-sabotaging behaviour and doesn’t serve you. It stops you from sharing your amazing gifts with the world. It’s time to let it go and be imperfectly perfect.

Call To Action: This week I want you to take some imperfect action

Let’s say;

  •      You have drafted some wording for a post, then use it – post it
  •      You might have a blog post sitting on your desktop, finish and publish it
  •      You might be waiting to get the right video equipment or the perfect background for your Facebook Live – just do it already. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Check out mine, I umm, ahhh, waffle and forget what I want to say. It’s all okay, don’t let perfectionism hold you back
  •      You might not be talking to people about what you do because your elevator pitch isn’t perfect – just share your message
  •      You might not be doing business because you don’t have a website. It’s all nonsense! One of my past mentors has been in business for 20 years and still doesn’t have a website. She gets clients. Do NOT let this kind of thing hold you back

You KNOW what it is you’re putting off. Just do it.

No more excuses. THIS WEEK!
