Just a simple little thought provoking message this week.

I was delivering talks at two very different events last weekend. One was what you’d think of when you think of a speaking gig, a big room full of people, speaker packs, microphones, all that kind of thing. The other was a much smaller, intimate group. Both very different, and both fabulous in their own unique way.

At the second event, a little bag of shells and pebbles that had been collected from the beach was passed around. We were all invited to take something from the bag as a reminder to ourselves of how unique we all are.

I put my hand into the bag and felt quite a large pebble. I went to take it out and then put it back before taking out a smaller shell.

Not that significant really, but the thing is it was.

I thought to myself, ‘what will people think if I take the bigger pebble?’

It got me thinking about how we might want to shine in life/our businesses, but we are afraid to.

What will people think if we take the ‘bigger pebble’ – whatever that bigger pebble might represent.

Will they think we are being egotistical? Pretentious?

Will they think we are too big for our boots?

What about if they think we are greedy, taking the bigger stuff, the bigger opportunities, and leaving the rest for everyone else?

It’s all nonsense! There is enough to go around for everyone.

So if you get the opportunity to pick the bigger pebble, then pick it and be proud of yourself and know that it’s good to step up and own your stuff. I know next time what I’d be choosing!

Your call to action this week:

Think of an opportunity you might be turning down, or not pursuing because you’re playing it small. Then change that around!

How To Be Unstoppable In Business

Are limiting beliefs holding you back? I know that they have with my clients, and they certainly have with me. The thing is they can be changed SO quickly, yet we just drag them around with us everywhere we go, and they stop us from achieving all we set out to achieve.

We wouldn’t try and climb a mountain with a truck load of baggage (well if I was climbing a mountain, I’d probably need a truck load of baggage, most of it being make-up and books!) I digress. You wouldn’t want to carry that all around with you, yet we drag all of this baggage around with us every single day and then wonder why everything seems such hard work.

We are great at building evidence to reinforce our negative beliefs. “Oh that video went wrong”, so that might become “I’m rubbish at videos”, or “I’ve only got 1 like on my Facebook post”, so that might become “I’m rubbish at writing Facebook posts, everyone else gets loads more likes than me”. When you say it out loud, it’s almost funny, isn’t it?! It’s like the little child that gets overlooked at school and doesn’t get the invite to a party. Let’s not make it a thing. Just because you don’t get 200 likes doesn’t you’re your post is rubbish, it may not have even been seen, which going by the way algorithms work on Facebook, is a much more likely reason! Challenge what you’re saying to yourself.

You’ll often hear people say, they’re not good at something, and then they will share examples of when it’s all gone wrong and how they’re not good at it. It’s time to start finding evidence to the contrary, to notice all of the things you are good at.

I remember when I had just finished my coaching training, and we’d talked about limiting beliefs and how you could get rid of them and I thought it was some magical thing that I had to try and figure out. I turned the release of limiting beliefs into a limiting belief that I couldn’t help my clients clear them! Hilarious!

You have to catch yourself saying these limiting beliefs, or even thinking them, and then start to change them through challenge.

Limiting beliefs are based in fear, we use them to protect ourselves but they don’t serve us. They just stand in our way and stop us from moving forward.

Sometimes all it takes is a quick reframe, other times it’s worth working with a coach or someone to help you recognise what you’re saying.

Let’s challenge a couple of common limiting beliefs now by doing a bit of reframing.

“I don’t deserve it”

  • Is that true?
  • Who says?
  • What needs to happen for you to deserve it?
  • Write up a list of strengths. You are unique, celebrate that

“I can’t do it”

  • Turn this impossibility into possibility – HOW can you do it?
  • Has someone else done it before?
  • What did they have to do to make it happen?
  • How do you know if you haven’t tried?
  • What if you could????

I may have shared this already but I remember having a conversation with a friend a few years ago. She was living in rented accommodation and wanted her own little house. She told me she couldn’t get a mortgage. So I said, ‘How do you know? You haven’t tried!’ She decided to go and find out if she could get a mortgage, and has been living in her beautiful little cottage for many, many years now. All because she changed what she believed, and worked on the how!

Now, simply doing this on its own might not be enough. You might need to do a bit more clearing which is why I am passionate about NLP. When I was at my Practitioner training we had to write a list of limiting beliefs. Despite all of the mindset work I’ve done I still came up with a hefty list. At the end of the training, though, I would say 95% of those had gone. NLP is amazing at helping you release all of the unwanted brain rubbish! The rest I’ve worked on since.

2

We are like detectives, we get something wrong and then start trying to prove that we are rubbish at something, what is that all about? What if you CHOOSE to be good at something instead, and then find out all the ways you can improve at it. Going forward, gather that evidence instead, it’s much more empowering. That would be way more fun, wouldn’t it?

My work with service-based solopreneurs on being visible in their businesses includes lots of mindset work.

We are great at discounting what we are good at. We often don’t even notice how we’re limiting ourselves.

Social Media

What does it take to be unstoppable in business? It takes the guts to work on your mindset, to clear that old baggage out and build your business from a place of power, rather than being a quivering wreck!

Know this… Absolutely anything is possible for you. Working on your mindset will help you get out of your own way and start to believe that.

Social Media (1)

I read somewhere once that you need 3 things to achieve your goals. Sadly, I can’t find the original source, so if you know then please share with me as I like to credit people’s work.

  • Possibility – turn impossibility into possibility (back to that ‘How’ again)
  • Ability – Believe you have the ability to achieve your goals (Has someone ever done it?  Then why can’t you?)
  • Worthiness – You are worthy (Under what circumstances would you deserve it?)

Your call to action this week: Notice what you’re telling yourself and start to reframe it. If you want more help then get in touch and let’s get these pesky limiting beliefs cleared so that you can start living the life you’re meant to be living. There are lots of different ways to do it, and having done NLP training I now know there is more than one way to skin a cat as they say (as in lots of different ways to solve problems). The first step is awareness.

Change CAN happen in an instant. We think it has to take time. It doesn’t! You can decide today to believe you’re unstoppable and can achieve all you desire. Will you?

I was being coached this week and we were talking about my big goals for 2017 and how, while they excite me, they almost don’t excite me enough.

As we got talking about the numbers I’d set for myself, I realised that while it’s important to have numbers, what I want isn’t really about how much I have in the bank. Now I’m not saying I want to run a hobby, but I know that if I’m going to be motivated to achieve my big goals I need to know what they lead to, or there isn’t that pull to make me want to go all out for them.

I know that money is going to fund a lot of what I want to be, do and have in life, but it’s not the driver for doing what I do, and that’s pretty fundamental. If you don’t know why you want the money and what it’s for specifically, then how can you get super excited about it? Also, there’s that whole thing about money likes to know where it’s going, so if I don’t know then it’s got no chance!

Sure, you can spend all the time in the world planning and coming up with amazing ideas, but you also need to ‘buy into’ that plan or you’re wasting your time.

What I said was that I’m not doing this biz thing to get fancy shoes with the latest label on, or the most beautiful, high-price tagged clothes. I’m doing this whole business thing to get experiences, and bigger than that – I want to help the homeless. Ultimately, I have big dreams about how I can help and want to use my business to leverage that income so that I can be a philanthropist. I’ve actually got an unspoken (so far) desire to help people in secret too, so they don’t know where the money has come from. How amazing would that be?

30

It’s okay not to want to be a ‘six-figure coach’ that buys designer shoes, or designer bags, AND it’s okay to be that coach if that’s what you want to. This is about being honest and true to who you are. I get excited about handbags, and like a nicely priced Modalu, so I’m not getting precious about not having the finer things in life. What I’m saying is figure out what you want to earn the money in your business for. Connect wholly with yourself and figure out what lights you up, not what you think others expect of you.

If you’ve been around a while, you know I probably spend more money on books and card-making supplies than I do on clothes. I can’t help it, there’s this whole debate going on in my head of ‘oooh, but I could buy xxx books and xxx lots of gorgeous new crafting supplies’. Do I really need it? (Obviously, when it comes to ‘need’, books are absolute necessity – you get that, right?!

Don’t get sucked in by the numbers, get sucked in by the difference you can make when you get your business running super successfully. If talking about money stories brings up all your money shizzle then work on those blocks.

Think about the difference you can make to the world when you show up 100% authentically you, with just one intention, your bigger purpose.

This is why when I work with clients I ask them what their big ‘why’ is. I want them to connect to their bigger goal, to understand why they are doing what they do. I’ve said in the past my big why is to rid the world of grumpy people! By that, I mean people who are unfulfilled, dissatisfied with life and know that it can be better, and it can – we just need to create it. My bigger goal is to help people who are homeless.

As my coach rightly told me, if you aren’t connected with your purpose and have an honest belief inside about what you’re doing then your attempts will only go so far. You’re not showing up as you.
29So think about how you can connect with yourself – really understand yourself on such a deep level that you know without a shadow of a doubt why you do what you do, who you do your best work with, and how you can help. Know your super powers, that’s what we want you to share. Then when you go out there and share your message, showing up exactly as you are, imperfectly perfect, fabulous things will happen.

Spend some time taking stock of what you’re building. Make sure you’re building the right things in your business, for the right reasons. Be honest with yourself about why you do what you do, and what you hope it will bring to you. Be proud of all of the reasons you want what you want, whether that’s shoes and bags or to help the homeless, or a combination of both. Your dreams aren’t selfish, they’re your dreams, so go all out there and get them. Just make sure they excite you enough to do that.

So if putting a financial figure on your goals isn’t quite hitting the mark with you either, spend time working out what that money will buy you. When you’re manifesting what you want, you’ll actually know what it is instead of all that guesswork, so it’s a win: win.

Have you ever sat there and thought I know what I want to achieve, but I just don’t know if I can, or how I can?

I was in a group the other day and one of the girls posted a question about which camp you fell into – a) or b), where a) was you weren’t feeling confident in what you’re doing and b) you have rock solid confidence in what you’re doing. (I’m heavily summarizing the A’s and B’s here by the way!)

I said I had rock solid confidence now in what I’m doing, but it hasn’t always been like that. I’m not saying I’m perfect, there are days when I say to myself “Woah, what am I doing setting myself such big goals?” And then I remind myself that if you want to achieve big things, you have to set yourself big dreams and goals. Even if you only get halfway there, you’re better off than if you never set them at all.

When I answered that I was in the B camp (I have a rock solid belief in what I do), she asked me what I’d done to achieve that. I thought about it and realised it’s all down to the work I’ve done on myself over the past 2 years.

It all comes down to mindset.

It got me thinking. What are the things you have to do to feel more confident.

  1. Make a decision to believe you’ve got this

You might wake up in the morning thinking you’re never going to pull this whole thing off. It’s normal to doubt yourself from time to time.

It’s what you do after having that thought that counts. You can choose to go into a big funk, and spend the rest of the day moping around, or you can choose to do something about it, and get yourself into a better place.

Remember, what you’re putting out there will come back to you in one form or another, you know – those bad moods that start rubbing off on everyone else – yeah that!

25

  1. Choose the right mindset

Carol Dweck, ‘one of the world’s leading researchers in the fields of personality, social psychology and developmental psychology’, talks about a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset in her book called Mindset. She explains the difference between them like this…

“Believing that your qualities are carved in stone – The fixed mindset creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over. If you only have a certain amount of intelligence, a certain personality, and a certain moral character, well, then you’d better prove that you have a healthy dose of them. It simply wouldn’t do to look or feel deficient in these most basic characteristics.”

Ever felt like that? That you have to do your absolute best or you won’t look good?! It’s one of those things that comes up a lot when it comes to being visible.

In contrast, she says “the growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts. Although people may differ in every which way – in their initial talents and aptitudes, interests or temperaments – everyone can change and grow through application and experience.”

How freaking fabulous is that?!

We get to choose! Fixed or growth. Which one are you choosing right now?

26

Carol said that for 20 years her research has shown that “the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. It can determine whether you become the person you want to be and whether you accomplish the things you value.”

So, in a nutshell a fixed mindset will keep you stuck, there is no room for possibility.

A growth mindset will help you to change and grow, the possibilities are endless.

Okay, so there’s a lot of choice stuff going on here, isn’t there? Exactly, YOU get to choose what you want. You can choose to lack confidence, or you can choose to start working on your mindset and believe anything is possible.

  1. Get Yourself Out Of That Funk

You often read all of this stuff about ‘working on your mindset’, but what does it even mean?! Essentially, in my world anyway, it’s about getting your thoughts in the right place, so that instead of coming from a place of negativity you’re coming from a place of empowerment and I’d even go so far as excitement. Who doesn’t want to feel empowered and excited about life?

27

But HOW do you get yourself into a better mindset? Here’s a few tried and tested ways that work:

  • Write down all of the things you’re grateful for right now, it’s an instant mood booster.
  • Write down all of your fears and see them for what they are. They are simply thoughts that don’t serve you. Thoughts that hold you back. Thoughts that make you a lesser person than you actually are. You can choose to believe in them, or you can choose to say I might be feeling this way right now, but from now I’m choosing to believe that x, y, z is possible instead.
  • Listen to a positive audio, watch an inspiring YouTube video or read something motivating. My latest thing is afformations, which are similar to affirmations (I didn’t get the name wrong) They originate from Noah St.John and basically are affirmations that are turned into a question, so instead of I am successful in business (which you might find a bit unbelievable if you have evidence to the contrary) you’d change it to ‘Why am I so successful in business?’ It sends your brain on a search for the answer to the question. Powerful stuff.
  • Put on your favourite playlist and let the music lift your spirits
  • Meditate – daily meditation makes SUCH a huge difference to your mindset. Note the word ‘daily’. I laugh as I write this because I set the intention to do meditation every single day last year, and after I set the intention I was the worst I’d ever been at it. It was because I hadn’t really made the decision to do it, but thought I ‘should’ do it. As the year went on it became a daily habit and something I now just wouldn’t want to stop

What works for one doesn’t work for everyone. You’ll have your own ways of boosting your mood so do those things that shake you out of your funk instead. If you find this challenging (I know I used to), write a list of all of the things that help you feel better and then you have your ‘go-to’ for those days when it’s not quite happening.

I love using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) aka Tapping for this, it’s such a quick way to lift your energy and put you in a different place.

Remember, you don’t always need to know the ‘how’. You just need to know that whatever you want is possible, IF you put your mind to it and take action. You can figure the ‘how’ out along the way. Have a loose plan and then you can tweak and adapt as you go.

28

Here’s a quick recap:

  1. Make a decision to believe you’ve got this
  2. Choose the right mindset
  3. Get Yourself Out Of That Funk

Please do work on that mindset! That’s your call to action this week!

When I first started learning about coaching, I came across an ‘Energy Drainers’ exercise, where you had to write down all the things that were draining your energy, so it might be business related, like a job that you’re procrastinating on, or personal like a dripping tap for example.

social-media

What I’ve learned over time is that fear can also drain your energy – BIG time. I’m always banging on about how you should work on your mindset to help you overcome any blocks in being visible, and it’s true.

Mindset is a MASSIVE part of being successful. If you’ve got things that are standing in your way and holding you back then you need to kick them to the kerb.

It sounds so simple but it’s not always that easy. It may be that like me, you’re an introvert, so showing up can sometimes feel like hard work. I can be super visible for a while, working through any fears that show up and then I need to retreat for a bit to recover some of my energy. Perhaps you have imposter syndrome, where you think that you’re not as good as you actually are, and are going to be ‘found out’ one day. You will be, you’ll be found out to be the fabulous business owner that you are!

I’ve been doing lots of research lately with potential ideal clients to find out what really holds them back in business, and the number 1 thing is fear. They are afraid.

Afraid of not being good enough.

Afraid of being ‘found out’ as a fraud (despite being incredible at what they do!)

Afraid of being criticised if they do share content.

Afraid of being compared to others.

Afraid they don’t have enough experience, or enough to say, or the right things to say.

So much fear.

Fear doesn’t have to run the show. You get to choose what you do with it.

Here’s 3 ways that you can bust your fears:

20

  1. Take action

This is the fastest way to smash through your fears. Brave action ideally, but any action is a step in the right direction. Set an intention of what you’re going to do, declare it to someone else (personally I think this REALLY helps) – when you know someone is going to hold you accountable and take no excuses off you, then it’s way more likely that you’ll take action. Go out there and do it.

In the film, We Bought A Zoo, Matt Damon says to his son, “Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, just literally 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery, and I promise you something great will come of it.”

How could you show insane courage for just 20 seconds?

  1. Sit with your fear

I know! I never thought that phrase would come out of my mouth either! I know for me, anything about feelings is a bit uncomfortable. If there’s a way I can logically work out a problem, that would totally be my go-to plan rather than sit and ‘feel’ into it, but actually it’s a great thing to learn how to do. Yes, my lovely mentors, I have been listening!

22

Feelings are there for a reason, they’re a guide to help us move forward.  What are you really scared of? If you dig deep, you’ll realise it isn’t always what you think.

Instead of stressing about why it’s coming up, or getting yourself tied up in knots like a pretzel, be a witness of your fear. Say to yourself, “Isn’t it interesting that I feel fearful about xxx, I wonder what is it about xxx that’s making me feel fearful.” Notice what comes up when you do this exercise. You could journal the ideas to get even more clarity.

I’m sure you’ll have heard of the acronym of FEAR being used as False Evidence Appearing Real. We might be basing our fears around previous ‘evidence’ of what’s happened, but how do we even know that it will play out in the same way. What if circumstances have changed since the last time? What if we have changed? Start to gather evidence of things that have gone really well when you’ve ‘put yourself out there’, record those things that you’ve conquered over time.

  1. Focus on the here and now

I was talking in my Fearless Visibility Diva group just last week about being in the here and now. I think it was Danielle Laporte that said if we could just focus on the here and now then there is no need for fear because you’re not in the past or the future so there is literally nothing to fear. How can you stay focused in the moment?

21

Maybe you’re just about to post a message in a group, and your fear is rearing its ugly head, shouting to you that it won’t be good enough, that what you want to say is silly. What if instead of running that story you create a whole new one, where you visualise yourself being successful? Step into the confident version of you that creates amazing posts and is a real inspiration to others.

Don’t let fear stop you in business. Pushing through comfort zones is all part of being a business owner. Find ways to move through fear so that it doesn’t cost you missed opportunities/business.

Call to Action: Your call to action this week is to choose one of the three tips and make it work for you – Take action, sit with your fear or focus on the here and now. Which one will you choose? Let me know how it works out for you 🙂

Are You Ready To Become A Fearless Visibility Diva?

Is fear holding you back in your business? Maybe it’s even costing you money.

Are you ready to be a Fearless Visibility Diva?

Running a business can challenge us in so many ways. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, one day we might be feeling exhilarated by the journey and the next day we’re feeling the fear of climbing that steep track, wondering what it’s going to feel like as we go over the top and see what’s on the other side.

fdv

There are so many things that we have to learn and/or overcome. Whether it’s the techy side of the business, like how to do things on your website, how to use your phone to record something to how to create content, how to engage people and build an awareness of what you do. The fear element can kick in big time, and some days throw us off track, or worse might be costing us money in our businesses.

I want you to park all of your pesky fears for a moment and imagine this instead:

You get up in the morning, do some work on your mindset and step into the fabulous business owner version of you. You know there are things that you want to achieve, and you choose to take them in your stride. There might be things that scare you, but you view them as an assignment to work on, rather than an obstacle standing in your way.

You feel confident that whatever is on your to-do list is possible. You trust that everything will happen exactly as it’s meant to, with a knowing that you’re on the right track and every little action you take on being visible is going to bring you closer to your business goals.fdv-quotes-image

You know that fear can be a good thing, in that it can propel you to take actions, to step up and raise your game, so you fear less.

You no longer have to worry about your business being an expensive hobby because you have a plan in place to create a fabulous business instead.

That’s a much nicer way to run your business, isn’t it?

It’s no fun running a business based on fear – I know – I’ve done it!
Fear of how my launches will go – fear that people won’t sign up to my offerings fear that I can’t get new clients, being successful and then worrying that I can’t repeat that success and worrying that it was all a fluke.
Then there’s the technology fear:
What if my FB lives go wrong?
What if I’m judged for my blog posts? You name it, I’ve had the fear too.
Fearless Visibility Divas work on their inner fears, they work on their mindset on a daily basis and know that while some things are scary, they also acknowledge that it’s a great way to step up and be open to growth and new opportunities.

I’ve had some amazing results in my business by working on my fears and being more comfortable with being visible. My clients have too. It’s not been an easy journey to get there, it’s taken time, but through working constantly on my mindset it’s made everything so much easier, and the fears that still show up are busted much quicker than in the past.

I want you to embrace all that’s fabulous about you, and become that Fearless Visibility Diva. Choose today to work on your mindset, overcome your mental blocks and be an amazing business owner running your business on your terms and with ease.

So often we settle for our lot in business and life. We think we only deserve a certain amount of happiness and that can really limit us.

I remember back when I was single after going through my divorce, lots of friends kept telling me I should go out with this person and that person, but I told them that I didn’t want to settle. I wanted to find the right person for me.

I had a comprehensive list of what I wanted in a man. Yes, that might sound a bit excessive, but hey I ended up with my soul mate so you can’t argue with that! I think clarity is so important, in all areas of your life, but especially when running your own business. You need to get really specific about what you want.

Back to these friends of mine, they said my list for my ideal man was too limiting and that I should compromise, but I didn’t want to.

They said I’d be missing out on great opportunities, and could be holding out for something that wasn’t right for me. I disagreed.

I knew I’d rather wait for the right person than settle for the wrong person and regret my decision, which wouldn’t be fair on either of us. Trust me, I had to kiss a few frogs along the way! Oh, the stories I could tell about some of those dates – wowzers. The dating world is eye-opening for sure!!!

What’s all this got to do with business? Well, quite a lot actually.

Like my friends telling me who I should go out with, you will get people telling you how to run your business, what clients to work with and what you should be doing/not doing. The thing is, there is no one-size fits all in business. Yes, there are methodologies that are tried and tested, proven to work, so you’d be mad not to incorporate them, but the beauty of running your own business is you get to run it your way.

You need to be clear on what you want for your business

I had a full list of what I did and didn’t want in a man. If you were to apply that to your ideal clients, would you know who you do and don’t want to work with?

29

You need a vision, a bit like my list. I was able to visualise the kind of relationship I wanted to be in, as I’d written out all of the qualities of the man I wanted and how life would be when I met him. I knew that when I found the right person everything would fall into place like a jigsaw puzzle. The same applies to your ideal clients, when you are really clear on the type of people you want to work with, you’ll find the same thing happens.

You might find yourself wavering when the right people don’t come along (enter the frogs!) but maybe it’s because you’re not being clear enough. Maybe your messages aren’t talking to your ideal clients.

So you may be wondering how we met. We met online, he was working in Iraq doing close protection work when I first started chatting to him. It was back in the day when online dating was more taboo than it is now – it was one of those things you didn’t really share with many people for fear of being judged. I had to pull together an online profile that summed up me and what I was looking for.  I was very specific (my list came to my rescue again!) Trust me it seemed a tall order, but specificity works!

Have you ever felt like that in business? When you don’t want to share your business for fear of being judged for saying/doing the wrong thing, being ‘too big for your boots’ and thinking that people will question your reasoning.

Don't Settle For Wrong Clients #Niching

I felt like that when sharing the whole online dating thing with people. It all started off as a dare for me (I’m a sucker for a mini dare!) when my friend challenged me to go speed dating. I said it wasn’t for me, and the next best thing was online dating. Nothing like pushing your comfort zones!

So, my ideal husband list was too limiting apparently, I should compromise. No, thank you. Compromise is not in my dictionary, I like clarity, specificity and don’t think you need to settle. You can dream big and make it happen.

We can often get in our own way – we get really clear on who our ideal clients are and then worry that we will limit clients coming our way

A bit like the ‘fear strategy’ my friends were doing with me.

You think when you get clear on who you really want to work with that it’s going to stop you from connecting with the right clients. It’s funny because it actually strengthens your position, you don’t waste time with people that aren’t your ideal clients (timewasters – in my case back then my non-ideal partner). It sets you apart as the one to work with, because you’re so clear, or the one to fall in love with in my case.

If you believe in the Law of Attraction, like I do, then you’ll know that you can make anything happen. When my now hubby and I used to chat over MSN (the Skype of its day) his soldier friends would ask him who I was. His reply was, ‘She’s my future wife, she just doesn’t know it yet’.

When you settle and work with the wrong clients it’s hard work. Working with clients should feel easy and fun, something you love, not something you dread because they aren’t a good fit for you and it’s all super awkward, or you dread working with them. The clearer you are on who your ideal clients are, the easier you will find it to attract them, just like my lovely man.

So if you’re settling I want you to think about what you really do want for your business. Who are your ideal clients? Draw up a list and then speak to them, make all of your messages about them. Okay so you might kiss a few frogs along the way as you figure it all out, but you might also find your prince/princess along the way!

Do you read a lot? I read LOADS and I love to collect articles and snippets from things I’ve read. I have a ‘Data Bank’ of info that I use when I need inspiration.

Last week, I came across a snippet from an old Psychologies magazine. Yes, I’m sad, I scan some of the articles because I love them. I can’t help myself. It’s going back to February 2013, and it got me thinking about mindset. Let me share it with you;

Capture

Think about what you’re telling yourself on a daily basis

Are your thoughts positive or negative?

When I first started out in business I needed to learn everything from scratch. Yes, I’d worked as Head of HR and I was on the Strategic Team in my company, but business in the corporate world is a million miles away from running your own business.

I’d run my own HR consultancy for a while, but a lot of my clients came from referrals, so I really did need to start learning business all over again.

What I didn’t learn properly until about 2.5 years into my business, was that it’s not just about working on your business, you HAVE to work on your mindset

Figure What's Wkg #Mindset

I made all of the mistakes I see my clients make now, where they say;

_”I can’t get clients”_

_”Nothing is working for me”_

_”I’m doing all of the right things, but I can’t get the clients”_

You need to take a look at what you’re telling yourself. Instead of thinking, “I can’t get clients”, you need to think about what changes you could make to get clients, why your strategies aren’t working

Sometimes it can be a simple fix, one little thing needs a change. Other times there’s a lot of different elements that just aren’t working together as they need to be. Telling yourself what you don’t want though certainly isn’t helping you to get into a place of how to fix the problem.

There are so many components to running your own business

made up of things like; how clear you are on your ideal clients, what you’re offering in terms of pricing and packages. Then there’s the messages you’re putting out there with your marketing, the conversations you’re having with your potential clients that will lead to them becoming paying clients. The way you nurture the people once they are on your list.

Since working on my mindset, I’ve discovered lots of ways that I was holding myself back. It wasn’t necessarily about the nuts and bolts of the business, but with things I was doing. I didn’t have enough clients because I wasn’t confident enough to ask for sales, I wasn’t clear on my niche, so I didn’t explain myself very well or what I was offering. I had few clients because I was afraid to be visible, I was scared to have conversations. I used the label ‘introvert’ in my head as an excuse not to go out there and shout out about my business.

Working on your mindset is MASSIVE. That’s why, in my Rock Your Visibility Bootcamp, we have 6 modules dedicated to that alone, and then another 6 on the business side of things.

Number 1 Biz #Mindset

So, here comes the tough love, please take this in the right way! Stop complaining about what’s not working, and start to work on your mindset. Get that right first, and then you’ll find everything so much easier. So because I wasn’t clear on my niche I was doubting myself. I was putting out a message of ‘Why would you work with me, I don’t know what I’m doing?!’ I’d be too afraid to go out there and be visible and so of course people didn’t even know I existed. I just used that label of introvert all the time. Not great.

You’ll be able to see the wood for the trees, you’ll start to understand what’s working and what’s not.

Your call to action this week: Start to notice your negative thinking, and find a better way that empowers you to move forward. Check the business elements to see if there’s something that’s not working, the many components I’ve talked about, and so many more besides those. Check the ones that are working, and for the ones that aren’t – start to think about how you can do them differently.

Maybe it’s worth trying out the Psychologies magazine tip so that you can start to clear any negative thoughts.

Remember;

The number one thing you need to focus on for business growth is your mindset

I remember speaking to people in a group asking what was the biggest difference, the biggest breakthrough they’d had in their business. About 95% of them said the biggest difference was changing their mindset.

Negative thinking won’t inspire you to take action. I love this quote, by Abraham Hicks I think it is, ‘When focusing on solutions I feel good’. What do you need to be focusing on?

If you can’t seem to get on because your mindset is holding you back from being visible, then get someone to help you. (I’m standing here waving at you, ready to help if that’s you!)

Are You Really Committed To Your Business?

How committed are you to getting the word out about your business? Sometimes we think we’re committed to doing things in our business but we aren’t willing to take the action required. In order to be committed to something, it needs to become a priority.

It’s so easy to commit to a million and one things but you need two things for a commitment to work;

  1. You need to really want that thing that you’re saying you’re committed to
  2. You need to have just a handful of commitments aka focus to pull it all together

Let’s talk about each in turn:

You need to really want that thing that you’re saying you’re committed to

If you’re committed to something it’s your priority, you will clear your schedule to make it happen. You will be taking daily action steps to reach your goal. NOTHING will stand in your way.

It doesn’t mean you won’t face setbacks, it doesn’t mean you won’t waiver, but you will remind yourself of WHY it’s important for you and pull together a plan to make it happen. You will review where you are, where you might have gone off course, and recommit to your goal if needs be.

20

So often we say we are committed to something, yet we don’t put in the action to get there. I have often said in the past that I want to lose more weight/do more exercise but until I became really committed nothing changed.

Really check in with yourself.

How much do you want to do this particular thing that you say you’re committed to?

Let’s say it’s to be more visible in your business. How committed are you to being more visible?

Rate it on a scale of 1-10 if it helps you to figure it out. Check in with your feelings. What comes up for you when you think about committing to that one goal?

Once you’ve committed then you need to explore what action you will take. Maybe you’ll commit to writing a weekly newsletter, approaching a person for a collaboration, consistently posting on social media or attending monthly networking meetings on a regular basis.

If that starts to feel a bit daunting then maybe it’s not the right commitment for you, or if you’re already thinking ooh that’s a good get out clause forget it, just because something is daunting, doesn’t mean it isn’t the right thing to do in your business.

As a solopreneur, you have to be constantly pushing through your comfort zones. That’s what helps you to stretch and grow and bring more opportunities your way.

What you’re doing in your business right now will be a reflection of your level of commitment.  Are you committed to the right things?

If you’re not willing to fully commit, then that’s okay. You just need to acknowledge that there are other things that are more of a priority for you right now.

Removing a ‘commitment’ from your life that you thought you wanted can free up space for commitments for goals you do really want to achieve. Less of the guilt and more action in the right direction.

22

I hear people say they are committed to being successful in their business but it’s all a bit half-hearted. There’s no focus or everything’s just a bit hit and miss. Here’s the tough love. That’s not how your business will grow. You have to commit to a course of action and then take that action, whatever it might be.

You need to have just a handful of commitments aka focus to pull it all together

The next thing that you need is just a handful of commitments. When you’re coming from a super motivated place it’s really easy to set 20 goals and say that’s what you are committing to, but as that shine wears off you can start to wonder what on earth you’ve signed yourself up for, and how you’ll ever achieve them. Your overwhelm will start to kick in nicely and that does nothing for goal achievement or mindset!

I believe this focus strategy actually applies to your whole business in general. If you try to achieve 20 goals it’s more than likely that your progress will be much slower. Where you focus your time is where you get results.

27

I LOVE the book, The One Thing, by Gary Keller where he talks about focusing on one single thing at a time. It seems like you don’t need to read the book as you know the strategy but there’s some great strategies in there. It’s been a game-changer for me. I used to get so distracted.

Focus is an absolute must when you want to make progress. Much better to put 100% commitment into 3 areas of your business and do those things well, than to spread yourself too thin and do nothing very well.

Here’s a quick reminder of the two things you need for a commitment to work;

  1. You need to really want that thing that you’re saying you’re committed to
  2. You need to have just a handful of commitments aka focus to pull it all together

Your call to action this week: Review what commitments you’ve made. Check in on how committed you really are to them and if necessary choose new ones. Remember to share them with others too, when you make a commitment and declaration you’ll find them easier to stick to.

25Maybe you just need one commitment today – to commit to be committed to your goals and taking that action!
